The Heart of Empathy Training is the culmination of 17 years of study on the effects of trauma and how people heal. Naomi Sparrow and Rythea Lee have developed unique and effective ways to approach the resolution of trauma using the modalities of Body-Mind Centering® and Inner Bonding® counseling. These heart and body-alive techniques and tools are taught to expand each participant’s range in working with both themselves and others. There will be a balance of theoretical presentation on trauma along with experiential learning and creative process. There will also be a focus on peer practice of counseling and somatic skills. This workshop supports a personal journey towards spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental integration.

Inner Bonding®

Inner Bonding® is a 6-step emotional and spiritual approach to healing developed by Dr. Margaret Paul (author of Do I have to Give up me to be Loved by You?) and Dr. Erika Chopich (co-author of Healing Your Aloneness). It is a transformational method for discovering the origins of shame, anger, fear, and grief, making way for a powerful connection to personal strength and spiritual connection. The tools of Inner Bonding® work to resolve the ground level of unhealed wounds while also aiding in the clearing of daily upsets. This work is also useful for addressing issues around addiction, self-destructive patterns, depression, apathy, and blocks to intimacy.

Rythea Lee’s particular approach uses Inner Bonding® to address the root of belief systems that get programmed into our mind, bodies, and emotions during trauma. This work offers a map towards remembering the children we once were and updating the child’s experience of the world and safety. The spiritual  connection that we foster through Inner Bonding® is an essential resource for  survivors who need to repair their relationship to a dependable source of love.

Rythea brings to her teaching a passion for play, comedy, theatre, and authentic expression. Her lifetime experience as a performance artist informs how she leads this workshop and what modalities are available depending on what the group needs. In other words, we will have fun too!

Body-Mind Centering®

Body-Mind Centering® is an emerging discipline in somatic education and therapy developed by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen.  (www.bodymindcentering.com) This work is grounded in anatomy, physiology, and developmental movement. This approach to transformative experience enables a person to learn through the integration of sensing, feeling, and movement. Body Mind Centering® has applications to a broad range of physical, emotional and social issues, including infant development, yoga, pregnancy and post partum care, sports, dance, theater, martial arts, creative process, trauma, and more.  When overwhelmed, we find ways of organizing or crystallizing around events we were not able to resolve. Any pattern in our body-mind is a way we organized ourselves to handle life events. In the Heart of Empathy, we will present information and practices that are critical to understanding how to facilitate the full resolution and healing of shock and overwhelm in the body-mind. This includes tapping into your embryological and cellular origins, widening your range of choices, modulating your responses, and learning to cultivate the mind-states that generate both healing and development.

"I cannot heal anything: I can create a generative field of possibility, within which healing is possible."
Bonnie-Bainbridge Cohen
