ZANY Performance ART

a half day workshop
With Rose Oceania (assisted by Patrick Crowley)

1–5 pm, Sunday, March 11

Be led through a creative journey, in which we use our voices, tell our stories, find the humor in who we are.  Go deep and get Zany!   You give yourself this time to mine the depths of your personal mythology to bust through logical thinking into beautiful, unrestrained art making.

I will offer manageable, bite-sized, structures in theatre, creative writing, and movement that allow creativity to unfold step by step.  ANYONE CAN DO IT!  Then we share our discoveries in a safe, supportive, and grounded environment that is held and cultivated.  Zany Performance Art is a transformational, heart-based experience that frees the mind and ignites
the creative spirit.

Performance Tour (dates TBA)
The Survivor Theatre Project

Bringing Survivors' Voices into Theatre
Directed by Rythea Lee

Meeting 8 weeks, 6 women and Rythea Lee weaved together a performance piece about healing from abuse and trauma.  We used our writing, poetry, scene writing, and movement to build a piece that will be around 35 minutes long.

The series culminated in an invited audience showing in November 2011.  Now we will be showing this piece at various locations.  If interested in seeing it, please contact us below.

For the past three years, the Survivor Theatre Project has been a project of the Cambridge Women's Center led by Melissa Penley.

The Survivor Theatre Project was created in response to a deep need
for survivors to bring their voices to the public discourse.  The
project aims to increase access to the performing arts, offer
survivors a creative space for healing and empowerment, and expand
public awareness on sexual violence.  It gives individuals rich in
experiences but lacking theatre training access to a professional
artistic experience.  The Survivor Theatre Project is blazing a new
path on the map of arts and activism.

CLASSES

Art of Loving Oneself

Dialogues with the Inner Child through Drawing and Writing
one-hour teleclass support groups
with Rose Oceania

5:30 pm (EST) Tues
12:00 pm (EST) Wed
Groups are ongoing

Take an hour for yourself, once a week, in the comfort of your own space, with a big juicy white pad of paper, markers, crayons nearby, and a willingness to explore your inner world and all of its treasures, hidden aspirations, unexpressed feelings. Discover a snatch of something that you afraid to put into words or a doodle, a scribble, a cartoon of your unrelenting inner critic. Move color and move that pain right out of your body!

This class will integrate elements of Inner Bonding (the inner child, the loving adult, and guidance) as well as explore the images and voices in your body with the help of simple writing, drawing structures in a safe supported group.

No writing or drawing experience required nor must you be versed in knowing your inner child or hearing the hidden messages in your body. If you are experienced in these ways, I have found over and over again, there is something about the power of a group of loving witnesses that allows for deep healing and discovery to take place. The only requirement is a willingness to learn and to rest with yourself in the company of like-minded inner explorers.
